Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the yield of side sills, by welding the lower end section of a pillar outer panel to the lateral surface section of a sill outer panel, and by welding the lower end section of a pillar inner panel to the upper surface section of the sill outer panel so that the lower end section of the pillar inner panel overlaps with the sill outer panel in a certain range extending from the top end of the latter. CONSTITUTION:A joint flange 19 in the lower end section of a pillar outer panel 17 is connected to a sill outer panel 5, being extended from the top surface section 5a to the side surface section 5b of the latter. A joint flange 21 in the lower end section of a pillar inner panel 15 is extended over the top surface section 5a of the sill outer panel 5 from the inside of the top terminal end flange 9 of a side sill 1 to the side surface section 5b of the sill outer panel 5, and the thus obtained overlapping sections extending from the top terminal flange 9 to the side surface 5b of the sill outer panel 5 are welded together.
