The electrochemiluminescent liquid uses an organic solvent such as acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, or benzonitrile as a solvent, and dissolves 9,10-diphenylanthracene, rubrene, etc. as an organic luminescent substance, and optionally contains tetraethylammonium perchlorate "tetraethyl ammonium perchlorate". A supporting electrolyte such as butylammonium/gucchlorate is added.

Light emission occurs by providing a pair of electrodes in the solution as described above and applying an alternating current or direct current voltage. This electrochemiluminescence is said to occur based on the following principle. Re→

Furthermore, when the electrode potential is negative, anion radicals are generated according to equation 21. The intestinal ion radicals and anion radicals thus generated combine on the electrode surface to generate one molecule R* in an excited state and one molecule R in a ground state. When this excited state R* returns to the ground state, light hv is emitted as shown in the formula t4}. As mentioned above, electrochemiluminescence involves applying a DC or AC voltage between a pair of electrodes to generate light on the electrode surface.

In order to make only the target electrode emit light, a method was used such as increasing the area ratio of the segment electrode and the common electrode. It is difficult to hold down the display, and the electrodes that are not part of the display end up emitting light, making the display difficult to understand and making it impossible to obtain a clear, easy-to-read display. In order to solve the above-mentioned drawbacks, the present invention makes only the segment electrodes or the common electrode emit light. It is an object of the present invention to provide a clear and easy-to-read self-luminous type display device that causes both electrodes to emit light and performs a predetermined display without using such technically difficult methods.

以下、本発明の実施例を図面により説明する。Embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.

1, 2, and 3 are examples in which segment electrodes and common electrodes are arranged on a plane, respectively, and FIG. 4 is a sectional view thereof. In the figure, 1 is a segment electrode and 2 is a common electrode. These are formed by coating, sputtering, etching, printing, or other methods on a substrate 4 made of glass or ceramic, and insulating the areas 3 unnecessary for display by printing and baking glass paste or the like. 5 is a transparent substrate, 6 is a sealing/substrate material, which forms a space 7 in which a luminescent liquid is sealed.

Note that the shapes of the electrodes 1 and 2 are not limited to those in the embodiment, and may be of any shape. In addition, various shapes such as a sawtooth wave shape and a sine curve shape are possible. As described above, according to the present invention, by causing the segment electrodes and the common electrode to emit light at the same time to achieve the desired display, it is possible to increase the contrast of the display and to obtain displays with various designs. .
