Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of cracks of a ferromagnetic thin metallic film during the manufacturing process of a magnetic recording medium and to improve the characteristics of said medium, by performing the heat processing after giving the specific processing to the back side of a substrate opposite to the surface of the ferromagnetic metallic thin film. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metal is stuck to a substrate to obtain a ferromagnetic thin metallic film. Then a back layer is formed at the other side of the substrate. Such a substrate is driven so as to have a contact between the back layer and the circumferential side of a heat roller. Thus, the heat processing is applied to eliminate curls. In other words, a back layer is formed before the heat processing is applied to the substrate in order to decrease the coefficient of friction less than a ground substrate.
