Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the rigidity of the cylinder block by a method wherein the cylinder block, provided at the outside of cylinders and recessed inwardly between the cylinders, is provided on the side wall thereof with first reinforcing ribs, connecting the side walls mutually near the lower deck of the block and second reinforcing ribs connecting the upper and lower parts of the block through the first reinforcing ribs. CONSTITUTION:A water jacket 7 is formed in the side wall 3a of the cylinder block while the cylinder block 21 is bent inwardly at Siamese sections 8 between the cylinders near the lower deck 6 to guide the flow of cooling water into the Siamese sections 8 and prevent the deterioration of the cooling effect. The first reinforcing ribs 22 are provided horizontally near the lower deck 6 of the Siamese sections 8 in the cylinder block 21 to connect the neighboring side walls 3a mutually. 形状をなしている。なお、ロアデツキ6の幅は異なるが
気筒2間の側壁3b部も第3図に示すようにやはり台形
断面に形成されている。このように垂直断面を台形状に
形成することにより、エンジンの爆発による力やクラン
クシャフトの高速回転による慣性力に耐える剛性と強度
をシリンダブロック1に持たせ、横曲げ、縦曲げあるい
は振れ等による変形防止が図られている。

果の低下を防止している。このウォータジャケット7を
形成している側壁3の気筒2部およびサイアミーズ部8
におけるそれぞれの垂直断面は前記第2.3図のように
示される。これらの図から明らかであるようにサイアミ
ーズ部8の側壁36は気筒2に対向する側壁3aより内
方に凹み、該サイアミーズ部8におけるロアデツキ6の
幅Lムは気筒2部のそれLノ、よりも小さく、(LJ!
