Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent reduction of sealing performance due to clearance created by bend of a sealing wall, by increasing a thickness at a central portion of the sealing wall and providing a reduced thickness portion at side walls. CONSTITUTION:A weather strip 1 mounted through a mount member 7 to a panel 9 is provided with a hollow portion 2 and a relatively thick portion 4 at a center of a sealing wall 3. Further, a side wall 5 is formed with a reduced thickness portion 6. With this structure, even when the weather strip is abutted against an opposite member 10 to be compressed, there is created no clearance as due to inward bend of the central portion of the sealing wall. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent reduction of sealing effect due to increase in compressive load.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a weather strip for automobiles, particularly a hollow W=
◎ Conventionally, as for automobile weather strips having a hollow part, the wall thickness of the sealing surface is constant as shown in Fig. 1fA) or Fig. 2(A). ◎However, in conventional weather strips of this type, when the hollow part is compressed, most of the load is supported on both sides, and the sealing reaction force in the center of the sealing surface is reduced. Figure 1 (Bl
Alternatively, as shown in FIG. 2(B), the central portion is bent inward, creating a gap 11, resulting in poor sealing performance.

The sealing partner member 10 of the weather strip 1 is shown in FIG.
A) shows a panel, and FIG. 5 shows a welt, but the invention is not limited to these. In FIG. 3A, 3 is a seal wall, and both side walls 5 are formed in an arc shape at the ends thereof. The ends of both side walls 5 are attached to fittings iii [17, thereby forming a hollow m2. Both side walls 5 and seal wall 3 are made of sponge rubber, and both side walls 5eQ
At least one is formed with an air vent (not shown) that communicates the hollow portion 2 with the outside. In the present invention, the center portion 4 of the seal wall 3 is formed to be thicker than the side walls 5. In the drawing, the outer surface of the seal wall is provided with a wall that gradually becomes thicker from the end toward the center m4. However, the thickness may be provided on the inner surface of the sealing wall, or may be provided only on the central portion 4. Also, in the present invention, thin portions 6 are formed on both side walls 5. In the drawings, the thin wall portion 6 is formed by providing a notch 8 on the inner surface of the side wall.

The reason for forming the thin wall portion 6 is that if the center portion 4 is made thicker than the side walls 5, the compressive deflection load will be higher, so by forming the thin wall portion 6, the load χ can be reduced accordingly. Therefore, the shape etc. of the notch 8 are also determined so that the compressive deflection load falls within a predetermined range. For example, when attaching a weather strip glass panel 9 having the dimensions shown in Fig. 6, the shape of the notch 8 should be such that when a load is applied (Fig. 7), the dimension d falls within the standard range shown in Fig. 8. Figure 9 shows a second embodiment of the invention, where the weather strip is a door weather strip.

Since the invention is constructed as described above, when the weather strip 1 is compressed, the load is supported not only on the side walls 5 but also on the center part 4, and the gaps 11 are formed as shown in FIG. 4B. This improves the sealing performance of the weather strip.
