Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the water content in aq. coal slurry and to improve fluidity by adding a compd. which is the formaldehyde condensate of the alkylene oxide addition product of phenols and has specific mol. wts. into the aq. coal slurry. CONSTITUTION:A compd. which is a formaldehyde condensate of the alkylene oxide addition product of phenols and has >=1,000mol.wts., more preferably 2,000-50,000mol.wts. is incorporated into aq. coal slurry as an additive for said slurry. The polymeric chain of the alkylene oxide is preferably a block copolymer of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide and the weight ratio between propylene oxide and ethylene oxide is preferably 40/60-10/90. If such additive is added to the aq. coal slurry, the concn. of the pulverized coal in the aq. coal slurry is improved by >=10-50wt%; furthermore, the sepn. by settling of the pulverized coal is prevented and the fluidity is improved.
