Abstract

PURPOSE:To form at a low cost and easily a lubricating film having a uniform film thickness by filling the inside of a disk storing chamber with a vapor of a lubricant for forming a lubricating film, in a state that a magnetic disk is installed to a rotation driving mechanism of a magnetic disk device and rotated, and sticking and forming the lubricating film to the surface of the magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic disk unit 1 is rotated, for instance, by 3000rpm for 30-60min by driving a rotation driving mechanism 6, a temperature in a disk containing chamber 5 rises to about 50 deg.C (when the atmospheric temperature is 30-35 deg.C) by a windage loss of a magnetic disk 2, a lubricant 8 is heated and evaporated by an air current of its temperature, and as for the vapor of the lubricant concerned 8, dust of the lubricant, etc., a large particle of the lubricant vapor, etc. are removed through a filter 9, only a clean lubricant vapor circulates and fills the inside of the disk containing chamber 5, is stuck acceleratively to the surface of each magnetic disk 2 which is being rotated, and a uniform lubricating film whose film thickness is about 100Angstrom can be formed easily.

Background of the Technology In recent years, in magnetic disk drives, the recording density has been increased by thinning the magnetic film on the magnetic disk or by lowering the floating height of the magnetic head. In addition, the so-called CS is designed to keep the magnetic head in contact with the surface of the magnetic disk when the disk is stopped, and then levitate as the rotation speed increases.
As the S (Contact Start 5top) method is widely applied, wear and damage such as wear and damage due to contact sliding between the magnetic head and the magnetic disk surface when starting and stopping rotation are likely to occur. To prevent this, It is common practice to apply special surface treatment such as applying a lubricant to the surface of a magnetic disk or coating it with a lubricant film. In addition, here, "
The term "surface" refers to the surface of the disk that faces the magnetic head.

(C1 Prior Art and Problems By the way, the conventional method of forming a lubricant film on the surface of a magnetic disk is to use a lubricant made by suitably dissolving and diluting stearic acid, palmitic acid, etc. with a solvent such as xylene. Subinko-1 method on the surface of the magnetic disk,
Alternatively, after applying the lubricant by a spray method or the like, excess lubricant on the surface to which the lubricant is applied is removed with a wiper to form a uniform thin lubricant film of a predetermined thickness, or a lubricant film is removed by a vapor deposition method or the like. is formed.

However, the former method of forming a lubricant film, such as the spin-to-1 method or the spray method, requires considerable skill to form a uniform thin lubricant film of a predetermined thickness, and is therefore unreliable. Furthermore, there is a drawback that the number of man-hours is large and the cost is high. On the other hand, in the method of forming a lubricating film using a contact vapor deposition method, a lubricating film with a uniform predetermined thickness can be obtained, but it has the drawbacks of poor mass production and high cost I/I.

The drawing is a schematic sectional view of a main part showing an embodiment of the method for forming a lubricating film on the surface of a magnetic disk according to the present invention, and shows a magnetic disk unit incorporating four magnetic disks 2 that have been subjected to surface finishing treatment. 1 is attached to a rotational drive mechanism 6 in a disk storage chamber 5 of a sealed magnetic disk device 4. At the center of the spindle housing 3 for supporting each magnetic disk 2 in the disk unit 1 and at the corresponding portions between the magnetic disks 2, ventilation holes 3a and small ventilation holes 3b are provided, which communicate with each other. Therefore, the air flow generated when the magnetic disk unit l is rotated at high speed flows from the space inside the disk storage chamber 5 through the atmosphere circulation hole 7a provided in the base portion 7, as shown by the arrow in the figure. It passes through the center ventilation hole 3a of the spindle housing 3 and flows out from the small ventilation hole 3b onto the surface of each magnetic disk 2. On the other hand, a lubricant 8 made of, for example, stearic acid is disposed in the atmosphere circulation hole 7a provided in the base portion 7, and a filter 9 is disposed near the lubricant 8. In such a state, the rotational drive mechanism 6 is driven to rotate the magnetic disk unit 1 at, for example, 3000 rpm for 30 to 30 minutes.
By rotating for 60 minutes, the temperature inside the disk storage chamber 5 rises to 50°C (when the outside air temperature is 30 to 35°C) due to the windage loss of the magnetic disk 2, and the lubricant is 8 is heated and evaporated, and the vapor of the lubricant 8 passes through a filter 9 to remove dust such as lubricant and large particles of /Ia lubricant vapor, and only clean lubricant vapor circulates and fills the disk storage chamber 5. Each magnetic disk 2 rotating
It is deposited on the surface at an accelerated rate and can easily form a uniform lubricating film with a thickness of about 100 mm. The friction coefficient of the lubricant film formed in this way was 0.15 to 0.23, which was better than that of the magnetic disk surface before the lubricant film was formed, which was 0.45 or more. It has good lubricity.

Incidentally, in the above-mentioned embodiment, the disk storage chamber 5
A lubricating film is also deposited on each part other than the surface of the magnetic disk 2 inside, but the lubricating film is extremely thin and will not impair the functionality of the magnetic disk device. Furthermore, although an example has been described in which a lubricant for generating lubricant vapor is placed in the atmosphere circulation hole 7a provided in the base portion 7, for example, the inner wall surface of the disk storage chamber 5 may be coated with the lubricant in advance. The same purpose can also be achieved by leaving it in the same place.

Furthermore, the method for forming a lubricant film on the surface of a magnetic disk according to the present invention includes:
The embodiment is not limited to the above embodiment, and for example, in order to fill the disk storage chamber 5 with lubricant vapor, another lubricant vapor generator may be used, and the steam supply section 1 of the device may be used to fill the disk storage chamber 5 with lubricant vapor. The lubricant vapor may be supplied by connecting the lubricant vapor to the receiving port 5b excluding the sealing cover 58 of No. 5, and this method also forms a lubricant film of a desired thickness uniformly on the surface of the magnetic disk 2. be able to. Incidentally, this embodiment has an excellent advantage in that the time required for forming a lubricating film can be reduced to about ⅓.

+gl Effects of the Invention As is clear from the above explanation, according to the method for forming a lubricating film on the surface of a magnetic disk according to the present invention, the magnetic disk that is mounted in the disk storage chamber of a sealed magnetic disk device and rotates at high speed is By aerating the lubricant vapor filled through the filter and forming a lubricant film on the surface,
Apply a lubricating film of the desired thickness uniformly to the surface of the magnetic disk at low cost!・Can be formed into Furthermore, since the film thickness can be easily controlled, an ultra-thin 1% moisture film can be formed, which can contribute to increasing the recording density of magnetic disks, resulting in various excellent effects in practical engineering.
