Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce continuously a steel plate having different properties in a transverse direction by a direct rolling method of metallic powders by supplying continuously plural kinds of metallic powders having different properties in the transverse direction to the spacing between forming rolls, and compression-molding the powders then subjecting the molded powder to sintering and hot rolling in succession. CONSTITUTION:Metallic powders 2 are continuously supplied to forming rolls 3, by which the powders are made into a powder-molded plate 4 and are conducted to a sintering furnace 5. The plate is heated and sintered at 1,000-1,300 deg.C in a non-oxidative atmosphere and thereafter the plate is hot-rolled with a hot rolling mill 6 and is coiled with a take-up reel 8. Plural kinds of the metallic powders having different properties are supplied in the transverse direction of the rolls 3 in such direct rolling method of the metallic powders. More specifically, the metallic powder 2b is charged between partition plates 9, 9' provided in the transverse direction of a device 1 for supplying the metallic powders and the metallic powder 2a having the different properties is charged on the outside of the plates 9, 9'. The molded plate formed by compression with the rolls 3 is the powder-molded plate having different properties in both edge parts 4a in the transverse direction and the central part 4b and thereafter the plate is passed through the conventional sintering furnace and hot rolling mill, by which the steel plate having the properties different in the edge parts in the transverse direction and the central part is obtd.

Recently, in the production of steel materials, instead of the traditional pig iron making - steel making - rolling method, metal powder is produced using the direct reduction method, and direct rolling of this metal powder has been developed and is rapidly becoming popular. be. This direct rolling method involves continuous compression molding of metal powder, sintering at high temperature, and subsequent hot rolling, but it has superior aspects such as energy saving and environmental issues compared to the conventional ironmaking-steelmaking-rolling method. There are many.

On the other hand, there are cases where steel plates are required to have different mechanical properties in the width direction, such as in automatic transport roof members. That is, the edges in the width direction of the steel plate are required to have good workability because they are processed, and the central portions of the ridges need to be rigid. It is difficult to manufacture steel sheets with such different compositions and properties in the width direction using conventional steel-making and rolling methods.
