Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve wear-resistance of a flexible boot without detracting the elasticity by planting the outer peripheral surface thereof with short fibers, forming an elastic coat thereon and further planting short fibers on the coat. CONSTITUTION:The outer peripheral surface of a flexible boot body 10 formed of natural rubber or synthetic rubber is subjected to primer treatment. The treatment method is an ultraviolet radiation treatment method or an acid pickling method using Methylene chlorite solution containing 2% of trichlorocyanuric acid. Subsequently, adhesives 12 is applied to the outer peripheral surface. The adhesives 12 may be preferably urethane groop, acrylic groop or rubber groop. The film thickness may be preferaby 0.1-0.6mm.. After the application of adhesives, short fibers 14 are planted on the outer peripheral surface of the flexible boot body to be hardened. The hardening condition is desirably 140-150 deg.CX 10-30min. An elastic coat material 16 is applied to the planted short fibers to be hardened. Short fibers 14' are further planted on the coat.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to flexible boots. As shown in FIG. 1, the flexible boot 2 is used to retain Namekawa grease on constant velocity joints, 1st steering mechanisms, etc., and to completely prevent dust, water, etc. from entering from the outside. The flexible boot 2 is fixed to the outer ring 6 of the joint 5 and the shaft 8 by clamps 4, 4', and bends and/or twists following the shaft 8.

When the flexible boot 2 is bent and/or twisted, the outer peripheral surfaces thereof come into contact with each other and exert a force on each other. The flexible boot 2 is made of natural rubber or synthetic rubber, and if the flexible boot 2 is rotated at high speed in a bent and/or wet state, the flexible boot 2 will be damaged.

In order to prevent this, it is known to use a flexible boot whose outer peripheral surface is coated with a heat-shrinkable material to form a reinforcing layer. However, in this case, it is difficult to keep the reinforcing layer in constant contact with the flexible boot body, and conversely, the reinforcing layer reduces the elasticity of the flexible boot, impairing its functionality.

First, the outer peripheral surface of the flexible boot body 10 is treated with a primer. Such treatment methods include an ultraviolet treatment method and a pickling method using a 2% methylene chloride solution of trichlorocyanuric acid. Next, apply adhesive to the outer peripheral surface. As the adhesive, urethane-based, acrylic-based, and rubber-based adhesives are preferred. Further, the thickness of the film is preferably 0.1 to 0.6 questions. After applying the eyebrow agent, short fibers are implanted and fecalized in the next layer. The curing conditions are preferably 140 to 150°C x 10 to 30 minutes.
