DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention is characterized in that the unreacted monomers remaining in the polymerization vessel are completely collected after the completion of the polymerization reaction without being released into the atmosphere, and then polymerization is carried out. The present invention relates to a new and improved method for producing vinyl chloride or vinyl chloride polymers that allows the vessel to be exposed to the atmosphere.

Generally, when vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, or a mixture of monomers containing these as main components is polymerized in an aqueous medium in a polymerization vessel, the polymerization cycle is carried out with the polymerization vessel kept in a closed state. Even in such a polymerization vessel, it is necessary to periodically inspect the interior of the polymerization vessel.

Conventionally, when workers needed to enter the polymerization vessel to inspect it, they would discharge the polymer slurry inside the polymerization vessel after the polymerization reaction was completed, and then replace the gas inside the polymerization vessel with air. However, since a considerable amount of unreacted monomer gas still remained in the polymerization vessel after the polymer slurry was discharged, it was necessary to release the gas inside the vessel to the atmosphere. It is undesirable to release the unreacted monomer gas into the atmosphere as it is by air replacement due to the problem of air pollution, and on the other hand, even with the above air replacement, it is difficult to completely discharge the unreacted monomer gas remaining in the polymerization vessel. It is not desirable for workers to enter the polymerization reactor in such a state from the viewpoint of occupational health and environment due to the toxicity of unreacted monomers.

The present invention provides a new and improved method for producing vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride-based polymers that solves the problems in the conventional methods. After polymerizing the monomers to be used in an aqueous medium in a polymerization vessel, the internal pressure of the polymerization vessel and a slurry tank connected thereto is equalized, and the polymer slurry in the polymerization vessel is transferred to the slurry tank. After cleaning the inside of the polymerization vessel, when opening the polymerization vessel, there is a step of displacing the gas remaining in the polymerization vessel with water and collecting this gas in a gas holder, and replacing the replaced water with air. This method is characterized in that the polymerization vessel is opened after the steps of replacing with

According to the method of the present invention described above, unreacted monomers and other gases remaining in the polymerization vessel after discharging the polymer slurry are completely extruded from the polymerization vessel when replacing with water. The unreacted monomers collected in the gas holder and dissolved in the displacement water introduced into the polymerization vessel can be separated and recovered by passing this displacement water through a stopper, for example, so that the unreacted monomers remaining in the polymerization vessel can be recovered. The monomers are completely collected, so there is no risk of releasing unreacted monomers into the atmosphere when the polymerization reactor is opened, and even if workers enter the polymerization reactor as necessary, unreacted monomers will be collected completely. It has the excellent effect of completely eliminating any harm caused by the body.

Upon completion of the polymerization reaction, the polymer slurry produced in the polymerization vessel 1 is transferred to the slurry tank 3 below via the slurry discharge valve 2; This is done after equalizing the pressure inside the vessel.

This equalization of the pressure inside the vessel is done in order to smoothly transfer the polymer slurry from the polymerization vessel 1 to the slurry tank 3, which is connected to the gas phase portion of the polymerization vessel 1 and the slurry tank 3. This is done by opening the valve 4 of the pipe and optionally the valve 6 leading to the gas holder 5, and then by opening the valve 2 the polymer slurry is allowed to flow down into the slurry tank under the action of gravity, Further, the gas pushed out from the slurry tank as the slurry flows down is sent to the polymerizer or gas holder through the above piping.

In discharging the slurry, although not shown in the drawings, for example, high-pressure water is sprayed onto the inner wall of the polymerization vessel from an automatic cleaning device installed in the polymerization vessel to wash away the slurry or aqueous medium.

After discharging the slurry from the polymerization vessel 1, in preparation for the next polymerization, the interior walls of this polymerization vessel are coated with, for example, scorching thin flux to prevent scale from forming, and then the interior walls of the polymerization vessel are cleaned again using the cleaning device described above. The water used for this second cleaning is led to a drain tank 8 via a drain valve 7.

The operation of replacing the gas in the polymerization vessel with water and then replacing this water with air only needs to be performed at least once.
However, when removing water or heated water from the polymerization reactor, if there is a risk that unreacted monomer dissolved in this replacement water may evaporate into the polymerization reactor, although it is extremely small, this replacement operation should be carried out. It is desirable to repeat the reaction 2 to 3 times, so that unreacted monomers remaining in the polymerization vessel can be more completely eliminated.

Since the washing water and replacement water led to the drain tank 8 contain a considerable amount of unreacted monomer, this water is then sent to the stripper 14 via the pump 13, where it is removed. The separated unreacted monomer is removed by stripper 1.
The purified water is sent from the top of the tank 4 to the gas holder 5, while the purified water is discharged out of the system via the pump 15 or returned to the water tank 9 for circulation.

In addition, the gas discharged from the polymerization vessel 1 when water is replaced and the unreacted monomers from the stripper 14 are collected in the gas holder 5, and are then subjected to a purification process if necessary for the next polymerization. Can be used in reactions.

As explained above, according to the method of the present invention, by simple operation, when the residual gas in the polymerization vessel is simply replaced with air according to the conventional method, 0.20 to 0.25 kg of polyvinyl chloride product is removed per 100 kg of polyvinyl chloride product. Almost all unreacted monomers that were released into the atmosphere can be recovered.
As a result, for example, when a polymerization vessel is opened to inspect the inside of the vessel after each polymerization reaction, 200 to 250 tons/year of unreacted monomer can be released in a polyvinyl chloride production plant of 100,000 tons/year. Since this can be prevented and recovered, the method of the present invention can therefore greatly contribute to improving the unit consumption and preserving the working environment and the natural environment.
