Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover the titled monomer economically and efficiently, by discharging a polymer slurry prepared in an aqueous medium, pouring water into the polymerization vessel, exhausting the gas by suction from the top of the vessel while heating, if necessary, the vessel and condensing the gas stepwise.
CONSTITUTION: A vinyl compound (e.g., vinyl chloride or styrene) is polymerized in an aqueous medium in a polymerization vessel. After the polymer slurry is discharged from the vessel, water is poured into the vessel and, if necessary, the water is evaporated by heating to, for example, 30W90°C. At the same time, the gas in the vessel is drawn and exhausted from the top of the vessel by, for example, a Nash pump at a suction rate of 0.1W50Nm3/hr/m3 content. The unreacted vinyl compound monomer remaining in the vessel is recovered by condensing the exhausted gas stepwise. It is possible to sweep the inside of the vessel highly economically and efficiently without using any special equipments and pipes.
