Abstract

PURPOSE:To wash and remove even stuck protein without deteriorating the physical properties of a soft contact lens (SCL) by using a cleaning soln. contg. a chlorite and a catalyst for accelerating the decomposition of the chlorite. CONSTITUTION:SCL is cleaned with an aqueous soln. contg. 0.0001-5%, preferably 0.0005-0.5% chlorite such as NaClO2 and 0.5% of >=1 kind of compound selected from citric acid, glucose, hydrochloric acid, etc. as an accelerator for the decomposition of the chlorite. To the soln. as a cleaning soln. may be added adequate amounts of an auxiliary activator such as EDTA, boric acid or urea, a surfactant, etc. The cleaning soln. is used at room temp. -120 deg.C, and the cleaning tiem can be shortened in accordance with the temp. rise. For example, at 95 deg.C cleaning is finished in about 30min. Thus, conventionally unremovable stuck protein as well as other fat and oil, dust etc. can be washed off without deteriorating the physical properties of the SCL.

First, a cleaning solution containing chlorite and a catalyst for promoting decomposition (and an activation auxiliary agent, etc., if necessary) is prepared, and S'c L to be cleaned is immersed in this solution. In this case, the temperature of the cleaning liquid can be appropriately selected from, for example, room temperature to boiling temperature of around 120°C. However, when the temperature conditions are low, the treatment takes a long time, and when the temperature is high, it tends to be shortened.
