Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance efficiently, by bringing a treated mold of a microorganism belonging to the genus Saccharomycedes, Mucor, etc. into contact with adenosine triphosphate and methionine in an aqueous solution.
CONSTITUTION: A microorganism belonging to the genus Sccharomycedes, Hanseniaspora, Sporobolomyces, Trichosporon, Saccharomycopsis, Schizosaccharomyces, Mucor, Sporothrix, etc., capable of producing S-adenosyl-L-methionine from adenosine triphosphate and methionine, is cultivated in a common nutrient medium, and a mold is collected. The mold is treated by a method, e.g., air-drying, treatment with a surface active agent, etc., to give the treated mold. The mold is reacted with adenosine triphosphate and methionine in an aqueous solution to give S-adenosyl-L-methionine, which is convertionally separated from the reaction solution.
