Abstract

PURPOSE:To preferentially demodulate audio reproduction with fidelity at a strong electric field and with reception articulation at a weak electric field, by providing an electric field strength detector at an intermediate frequency band and switchig an audio demodulation frequency characteristic according to the strength of electric field. CONSTITUTION:Signal sent from a high frequency amplifier 1 and a local oscillator 2 are received at a mixer 3, converted into an intermediate frequency, amplified at an intermediate frequency amplifier 4 and inputted to a frequency discriminator 5. The output of the amplifier 4 is inputted to electric field detector 7, which derives a switch circuit 9 when the strength of electric field is higher than a specified level to connect the demodulated audio output from the discriminator 5 to an audio amplifier 6a, and if the strength of electric field is a weak electric field of a prescribed level of less, the output of the discriminator 5 is given to an audio amplifier 6b. The amplifier 6a has a wide frequency characteristic of audio band and provides the reproduction with fidelity, and the amplifier 6b attenuates low and high frequncies of audio band and emphasizes middle frequencies to give a preference to articulation. A hysteresis characteristic is given for the operation of a detector to keep the output of the detector 7 consistant to the frequent variance of strength of electric field.
