Abstract

CONSTITUTION: The ferrous sintered alloy for use as a valve seat is prepared by adding hard alloy powder to raw alloy powder material, and mixing, compression-molding and sintering the composition. The alloy has the structure that hard particles, comprising, by wt%, 20W60 of one or more of Mo, W, Cr and V, 0.5W3 of C, 0.5W10 of Si, 5W20 of Co and the balance being substantially Fe and having micro Vickers hardness of 900W1,300 are dispersed in the ferrous matrix at a rate of 5W20%. The alloy has chemical composition comprising 0.66W1.8% C, 0.025W2% Si, 0.25W4% Co, 0.16W2.85% Cr, 0.16W1.9% Mo, 1W 12%, in total, of one or more of Mo, W, Cr and V, and the balance being substantially Fe.
