CONSTITUTION: A pinch roll or a guide roll of a continuously casting apparatus utilizing electromagnetic agitation for a continuously cast slab is formed with a composite roll obtd. by fixing a sleeve made of nonmagnetic austenite stainless steel on a shaft made of nonmagnetic high-Mn steel. The high-Mn steel for the shaft has a composition contg. 0.2W0.8% C, 0.2W1.0% Si, 17W30% Mn, 1.0W 9.5% Cr, ≤3.5% Ni and 0.005W0.1% sol. Al. Since both the shaft and sleeve of the roll are nonmagnetic, no influence is exerted on the roll when electromagnetic agitation is utilized, and the roll withstands long-term use.
