Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain good mixing of fuel and air by permitting the fuel to jet against a wall, where the spray width shall be spread in the vertical direction, and come in contact afterward with a swirling flow.
CONSTITUTION: A protrusion 3 is formed in the middle of a concave 2 excavated at the top of a piston 1 and is provided with wall faces 4 which are approx. perpendicular to a swiring flow. The wall surfaces 4 shall be made mating with the jets of nozzles 5 on the cylinder head side 6 in an equal number to the jets, and swash faces are formed to guide the atomization to triangular shaped wall faces 4, 4. Spraying the fuel against this wall 4 will expand the atomized flow, conically formed with a diameter equal to jets, in the vertical direction at the time of thrust, yielding along-circled profile, and thereby the area of contact with the swirl is increased.
