Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable preparation of barium titanate having improved purity and activity, by hydrolyzing a metal alkoxide obtained by reacting Ba and Ti with an alcohol.
CONSTITUTION: About 10mol i-C3H7OH is added to one mol metal Ba and they are refluxed with a solvent of C6H6 to synthesize barium isopropoxide. Titanium tetraisopropoxide is added to barium isopropoxide in such a way that a molar ratio of Ba/Ti is 1.0 and they ae blended. Distilled water is added little by little to the blend, and the blend is hydrolyzed at the azeotropic temperature (60W 70°C) of C6H6, i-C3H7OH, and H2O, to deposit fine powder of crystalline barium titanate. This barium titanate has high purity, high activity, and high dielectric constant and is used as a raw material for barium titanate ceramic useful as a condenser, etc.
