Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit sufficient growth of isometric crystal grains and to produce an ingot of high quality by providing electromagnetic stirrers above and below in two stages near the meniscus and giving the rotating flow in vertical directions to the molten steel in a mold. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel in a mold near its meniscus is stirred in a horizontal 1 direction by a primary electromagnetic stirrer 2. At this same instant, the molten steel in the mold below the stirrer 2 is electromagnetically stirred by secondary electromagnetic stirrer 3 in the opposite direction. Therefore, the molten steel in the mold 1 is stirred vertically, and flows by drawing closed loops; consequently the molten steel discharged flow from an immersion nozzle 4 is blocked by the flow in the vertical directions and therefore the depth of intrusion of the molten steel discharge flow into the strand can be decreased, Hence, the overheating of the molten steel in the strand is prevented and the fine isometric crystal grain zone is sufficiently grown and left.
