PURPOSE:To cause to generate a freeze estimating signal, by a method wherein a momentary data is obtained by sampling a road surface temperature, and change in road surface temperature is expressed in a numerical manner, based on the data, to estimatedly compute a temperature which a road surface will have several hours to tens hours later. CONSTITUTION:An output of a road surface gauge 1 is produced into a digital signal via a temperature-voltage converter 2 and an A/D converter 3, and a road surface temperature data is sampled at given time intervals by means of a signal from a sampling command part 9 to store it in memory 4. A regression system computing unit 5 expresses numerically a time change in a road surface temperature by means of a regression method. Based on the results, a freeze critical decision part 6 finds that a road is brought into a freeze critical temperature after how many hours. This activates an alarm output unit 7. Thus, a short-term and a long-term freeze estimating signal can be generated using only an actual measuring data of a road surface temperature, which results in performing an estimation at a high hit rate in the prevention of a measurement error in the day time, at sunset and the like.
