Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the yield and suppress the coking in the preparation of an olefin by the thermal or catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbon raw material, by carrying out the decomposition reaction in the presence of a specific amount of a straight-chain primary alcohol having a specific number of carbon atoms.
CONSTITUTION: In the thermal or catalytic decomposition of a hydrocarbon raw material, esp. a heavy hydrocarbon raw materials to obtain an olefin, the decomposition reaction is carried out by adding 0.001W2.0pts.vol., based on 1pt.vol of the raw material, of a 1W5C straight-chain primary alcohol to the reaction system. The alcohol is pref. mixed with the hydrocarbon raw material before reaction. The reaction is carried out at 780W830°C and 0W0.3kg/cm2G. The contact time in the thermal decomposition is 0.3W0.6sec and the space velocity in the catalytic decomposition is 2W50hr-1. Since the increase of the amount of the straight-chain primary alcohol added decreases the yield of propylene, the ratio of ethylene/propylene can be easily controlled.
EFFECT: The suppression of coking elongates the life of the apparatus, and reduces the cost of decoking process.
