Abstract

PURPOSE: To prolong life of a die to form racks and suppress the cost for manufacture by giving racks such a form that the tooth at the end of each rack is as high in dedendum as other teeth and that the whole depth of tooth becomes smaller toward both ends.
CONSTITUTION: A rack 13 has the shortest teeth 14 at both ends, those beside them 15 being next shortest to provide smooth continuity toward the rest of teeth 16 in the middle. Dedendum heights of these teeth 14, 15 and 16 are all equal. The outside flank 24 of each end space 23 is leading to the outside surface of the rack bar.
