Abstract

PURPOSE:To absorb and relieve irregular pressure variation of an ink supplied from an ink supply pipe by mounting an auxiliary ink tank having an opening to the air on a carriage. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary ink tank 6 is mounted on a carriage 4 and, to an upper end wall of said auxiliary ink tank 6, an opening 7 communicated with the air is provided and connected to a main ink tank 2 by an ink supply pipe 3a and, further, communicated with a pressure chamber of a recording head 1 by an ink supply pipe 3b. Irregular variation of ink pressure generated by shaking action of the ink supply pipe 3a when thecarriage 4 is moved is absorbed by the auxiliary ink tank 6 having the opening 7 to the air and, therefore, ink supply pressure taken out to the ink supply pipe 3b is kept to a constant value.
