PURPOSE:To eliminate crooked runing fault by providing a tension holding means which holds the belt tension necessary for driving an intermediate transfer belt and correcting its deviation, a detecting means which detects the deviation from a normal position owing to crooked running, etc. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate transfer belt 6 is connected to a tension roller 18 for the purpose of extending the same. When the belt 6 runs crooked, it is corrected by a yawing device 81. More specifically, when the intermediate transfer belt runs crooked, the angle of entry to the tension roller 8 is changed by an eccentric cam pair 822. Crooked running detectors 13 are provided in both end parts of the belt 6, and when crooked running occurs, crooked running detection signals are sent to the yawing device or the like. The crooked running of the intermediate transfer belt is corrected by changing the angle of the entry to the tension roller.
