Abstract

PURPOSE: Egg shells of birds are treated with a diluted alkali under heating and with dilute phytic acid to produce high-purity calcium carbonate in low costs.
CONSTITUTION: Hen egg shells containing egg membranes are combined with a 0.3W5% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution and they are heated. When they begin boiling, the heating is stopped and cooled by standing. Then, the remaining solution is removed and washed with water 0.1% phytic acid solution added and they are stirred, then the egg shells separating from egg membranes are collected, washed with water, dried and crused to produce high-purity calcium carbonate used for food products and medical purposes.
