Abstract
PURPOSE: To stabilize the function of piston and, at the same time, to prevent loss in volume due to deformation of the piston body, by thiciening the thickness of the wall at the top of piston than that of circumferential wall, when bottomed cylindrical pistons to be used for enclosed compressors are manufactured.
CONSTITUTION: A discoidal blank material 13 made of steel is put in a piston forming chamber 12 of a metallic mold 9 composed of die 11 set on the heat resisting plate 10, after the material 13 is treated by annealing and lubricating. Then, a pressure punch 14b is advanveced under pressure. When the punch 14b is advanced, plastic deformation is generated in the material 13, and the material 13 is expanded through the clearance between the pressure punch 14b, and the piston forming chamber 12. When the pressing is completed, a cylindrical piston body 4 having a circumferential wall of t2 thickness and a top wall of t1 thickness which is 1.5W3times as large as t2, is formed in one body by cold forging. Since the thickness of the top wall is thick, the piston body 4 will not be deformed during the course of operation and a stable operation can be expected. Moreover, no loss in volume based on the increase of volume required for compression occurs.
