Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a hard particle material for melt-spraying which improves the abrasion resistance of the film obtained by forming a nickel coating via a thin layer of a spinel phase consisting of NiAl2O4 on the surface of alumina base particles. CONSTITUTION:First, alumina particles and nickel powder or nickel oxide powder are mixed and the mixture is heated for about 30-60min at about 1,200-1,300 deg.C in an oxidative atmosphere, whereby a thin layer of a spinel phase consisting of NiAl2O4 is formed on the surfaces of the alumina base particles. The sizes of the alumina particles are about 40-200mu, and the particles sizes of the nickel or nickel oxide powder are preferably smaller than those of the alumina particles. Nickel is coated on this spinel phase by a vapor phase decomposition method using, for example, NiCl2. The amt. of the nickel is set at about >=35% of the total weight of the hard particles and the thickness thereof at about >=2mu. It is preferable to compound such hard particles with an autogeneous alloy in about 13-65wt% range in general.
