Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a volumetric efficiency by directly introducing gas from a lower chamber of a piston, discarding a suction valve from an upper chamber of a cylinder, so that a temperature rise of the introduced gas becomes lower than that of the conventional one.
CONSTITUTION: In an arrangement wherein a piston ring 6 is fitted in a piston ring groove 5 of a piston 3 which is coupled to a piston rod 1 through a piston pin 2, there are provided means 7 for communicating the piston ring groove 5 with a cylinder chamber, a pin 13 disposed in a mating hole portion 14 where both ends of the piston ring 6 are jointed, for preventing the piston ring 6 from rotating, an axial groove 10 axially formed in the piston ring groove 5 on the side near to a lower chamber 11 of the piston 3, excepting a portion corresponding to the pin 13, the axial groove 10 being adapted to be closed by being contacted with the piston ring 6, and means for communicating the axial groove 10 with the lower chamber 11 of the piston 3.
