Abstract

PURPOSE: To save energy by a method wherein the number of the compressors counterbalanced to the consumed amount of compressed gas are put in operation.
CONSTITUTION: An unloader for the compressor is functioned to decrease the discharge volume from the compressor with the lowering of the suction pressure of the compressor C by throttling a suction throttle valve V. At first, all the unloaders of the compressors in operation out of a plurality of the compressors are functioned and as well as all the suction pressures of the compressors in operation are measured to be compared with the respective suction pressures at the rated operation of each of the compressors C and to calculate the respectiv marginal volumes Ai. When the overall marginal volume A, which integrates all the marginal volumes Ai of the compressors C in operation, exceeds the rated discharge volume of one compressor C, one compressor in operation is brought to stop. Or, when the marginal volume A decreases, one compressor is additonally brought to start in order to produce the compressed gas counterbalancing to the cosumed amount of compressed gas. An automatic start and stop discriminator circuit is provided to realize the method mentioned above by monitoring the overall marginal volume A and comparing the monitored volume A with the set upper limit value AH and the set lower limit value AL.
