Abstract

PURPOSE:To suitably prevent the occurrence of the initial spouting and dephosphorize advantageously by a method wherein the pattern of blowing a lime powder into a molten metal through a tuyere provided at the furnace bottom is specified particularly during the period from the starting of blow refining to the completion of desiliconization, when blow-refining a molten pig iron by a bottom-blown converter. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen gas is fed into the molten metal in the converter 1 through the tuyere 2 provided at the bottom, and pulverulent burnt lime in an intermediate tank 5 is fed into the molten metal concurrently with the gas after passing a measuring tank 6 and a gate valve 7. The amount of the lime powder blown into the molten metal is specified in the period from the starting of the blow refining to the completion of the desiliconization in such a manner as to satisfy the relation represented by the equation in accordance with the basicity and SiO2 content of the slag which is formed in the converter 1 during said period. By this specifying the pattern of blowing the lime powder through the tuyere 2, the initial spouting is prevented securely. Accordingly, it is possible to operate the bottom-blown converter in a particularly stable manner.
