Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain high dephosphorization effect by a small amount of Na2CO3 by dephosphorizing molten iron by using flux consisting essentially of Na2CO3 in the stage of maintaining the increased partial pressure of the gaseous CO to be blown into the molten iron. CONSTITUTION:In adding flux consisting essentially of Na2CO3 into molten iron, gaseous CO or a gas contg. gaseous CO is blown into the molten iron through the bottom tuyere of, for example, a reactor contg. the molten iron, and the molten iron is thoroughly stirred. For example, waste gases of converters are usable as the CO- contg. gas. The enrichment of the partial pressure of the gaseous CO in the molten iron is caused by the blowing of the gaseous CO, and the eventual decarburization reaction is suppressed. Hence, the greater part of the CO2 produced by cracking of the Na2CO3 is used for the formation of P2O5 without being used for decarburization reaction. The Na2O and P2O5 which are the other products of cracking of the Na2CO2 existing near the P2O5 are caused to react effectively to allow Na3PO4 to form which is fixed in slag, whereby dephosphorization is quickly progressed.
