Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to surely recognize the road condition at the rear of the vehicle at the leftward or rightward turning of the vehicle by a method wherein the inclination of the fender mirror is determined so as to face the view in the fender mirror to the road at the rear of the vehicle in response to the turning angle of a steering wheel and the running distance of the vehicle after the turning of the steering wheel. CONSTITUTION:When the steering wheel is turned, an output X proportional to the turning angle of the steering wheel is generated by a steering wheel turning angle detector 5 and at the same time a running distance detector 15 is started to operate. The detector 15 generates an output Y proportional to the running distance of the vehicle after the turning of the steering wheel. The outputs X and Y are operated by an operating unit 16, the output Z of which is input to a controller 20 in accordance with the turning direction of the steering wheel to generate an output signal at the side of the controller corresponding to the turning direction of the steering wheel. Said output signal is sent to a pulse motor 23 to turn the motor 23 for the fixed angle in order to incline the fender mirror 2. Consequently the view of a driver through the fender mirror 2 is turned approximately to the rear of the vehicle.
