Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove the residual toner stably and continuously by controlling the interface temp. of the surface of a cleaning roller and the toner contacting this so as to come within a temp. range from the second order transition point of the residual toner up to its m.p. CONSTITUTION:The cleanability for the residual toner on a transfer belt 5 improves from around where the temp. of the belt 5 exceeds the second order transition point in particular with an increase in said temp. Hence, in order to assure good cleanability, the temp. of the residual toner in the cleaning roller 13 part is controlled within the range from the second order transition point of the toner up to its m.p. As a control means for this, the temp. on the surface of the belt 5 is detected with a temp. detector 20 such as thermistor, and based on the temp. information thereof, a heater 11 is turned on and off, whereby the temp. of the residual toner is so controlled as to attain the above-mentioned temp. Thereby, the residual toner is removed stably and continuously.
