Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable high-speed selection by reducing mechanically movable parts, by arraying bright-spot scanning elements, utilizing ultrasonic surface elastic waves, in the radius direction of a disk. CONSTITUTION:Parallel laser light is guided as luminous flux into a waveguide through a prism coupler and deflected by being diffracted by an ultrasonic elastic wave excited by comb-tooth-shaped electrodes in the waveguide, thereby forming bright spots on a flank through a thin-film lens. The frequency of a high-frequency voltage applied to the comb-tooth-shaped electrodes is varied for bright-spot scanning. An array 38 of bright-spot scanning element having the said constitution (not shown in the figure) (See Patent Appl. No.1 Sho 55-12939) is arranged close to a magnetic disk 31 and a magnetic field generating element 33 is driven by a signal source 34 over irradiation with light, thereby recording a signal at a scanning position controlled by a controller 32.
