Abstract

PURPOSE:To constitute many switch circuits, which have a simple structure and are easy to produce, on the same substrate, by installing movable dielectric pieces above plural parallel low-refraction regions in an optical waveguide film. CONSTITUTION:N+1 linear low-refractive index regions 2' are arranged in parallel at constant intervals (d) in an optical waveguide film 2 on a substrate 1, and movable dielectric pieces 4, dielectric driving parts 5 consisting of bimorph or the like connected to pieces 4, and driving circuits 6 connected to parts 5 are provided above regions 2' at an interval l3. In case that the movable dielectric piece 4 is caused to approach the film 2 so that l3 is shorter than the thickness of the film 2, input terminals and are connected to output terminals 2' and 1' respectively. In case that l3 is longer than the thickness of the film 2, terminals and are connected to terminals 1' and '2 respectively. Switches 9 like this are arranged zigzag, and their interval l is set to a prescribed value determined by refractive indexes of the film 2 and the low-refraction region and the interval (d). Thus, NXN switch circuits which have a simple structure and are easy to produce are constituted on the same substrate 1.
