Abstract
PURPOSE:To offer an easily manufacture optical circuit substrate by covering the circumference of an optical waveguide, having thin-film convex lenses at both ends of a transparent beltlike material, with a transparent material having a less refractive index than the optical waveguide or a light-reflective material. CONSTITUTION:At both ends of a transparent beltlike optical waveguide 1 having prescribed thickness, thin-film convex lenses 2 and 2' having the same thickness and made of the same material are formed, and optical circuit parts 3 and 3' are coupled together. The circumference of the optical waveguide 1, thin-film convex lenses 2 and 2', and optical circuit parts 3 and 3' is covered with a material 4 having a less refractive index than the optical waveguide 1 or a light-reflective material 4. Consequently, an optical circuit substrate having small optical waveguide loss in coupling the optical circuit parts is manufactured easily.
