Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the precision of a scale itself by deflecting the actual scanning light of an actual scanning optical system and the scale scanning light of a scale scanning optical system by the same surface of a laser beam deflector and by equalizing the optical length of the optical path from a deflection point to a scanning surface to that from the deflection point to a scale. CONSTITUTION:The actual scanning light r1 of an actual scanning optical system 11 and the scale scanning light r2 of a scale scanning optical system 17 are deflected by the same surface of a rotary polygon mirror 9, so the actual scanning optical system and scale scanning optical system are arranged nearly in the same optical- path states. The device is therefore miniaturized and a cylindrical lens 8 and a scanning lens 10 are used in common. Further, the actual scanning light r1 and the scale scanning light r2 are deflected by exactly the same surface to make corrections with fidelity, and the optical paths from a deflection point to a scanning surface 12 and a scale 18 are equalized in length, thereby increasing the scale pitch of the scale 18.
