Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an powdered additive which will not cause any cementation and carburizing in casting pieces, by adding hollow balls of a high melting point oxides to the slag composition to be used for ingot making or continuous casting of iron and steel.
CONSTITUTION: To a parent material slag having a desirable diameter of approx. 1,000μ to be used in the ingot making or continuous casting process, the above mentioned hollow balls having approx. 105W1,000μ diameter (i.g.; alumina hollow ball) are added. It is desirable to adjust the percentage of internal voids of the hollow ball to 40W70%, and it is also desirable to set the percentage of amount of hollow balls to be added to 3W20wt% (wt% to the whole slag). The hollow balls are usually manufatured by blowing air into its molten state material. By using the above mentioned powdered additive prepared by adding the hollow ball to the parent material slag, surface defects of casting pieces can extremely be reduced and excellent casting pieces can be obtained.
