Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a suitable condition in an aeration tank, by estimating the density of organic matter from the density of gaseous carbon dioxide or nitrous suboxied contained in the exhaust gas from the aerating tank, and controlling air supply amount or returning sludge amount in accordance with the deviation between the estimated value and a setting value.
CONSTITUTION: The density of gaseous carbon dioxide or nitrogen suboxide contained in the exhaust gas is measured with an infrared analyzer 82 installed in an aeration tank 3. At the same time, amouht of the aerating air and density of the sludge are measured with an air flow meter 90c and a sludge density meter 85, respectively. Then, based on the above mentioned measured values, density of organic matters in the aeration tank 3 is indirectly estimated by an arithmetic unit 83. Then, the air supply amount and the sludge density are controlled by a controlling device 84 so as to reduce the density to a prescribed range.
