PURPOSE:To obtain the group delay time difference by mode groups, by measuring definition of interference pattern caused by light emitted from an optical fiber scope to be measured and a reference optical fiber scope. CONSTITUTION:An interferable light 2 from an interferable light source 1 is given to an optical fiber 5 to be measured and also to a reference optical fiber 6 through a semitransparent mirror 3, and lights emitted from the optical fibers 5 and 6 are made to pass through a light deflector 8 and a light attenuator 9 and then compounded by a semitransparent mirror 10. And then, an interferable distance adjusting medium 12 and the attenuator 9 are adjusted so that an optical path to the mirror 11 and light intensity become equalized. And then, for the basic mode group, a position of the mirror 11 at the time of maximum definition of interfering pattern is found. And then, for another given mode group, a position of the mirror 11 at the time of maximum definition is again sought. And, it becomes possible to seek group delay time difference by mode groups from shifting distance of the mirror 11.
