Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrocarbon consisting of a lower olefin essentially with almost no by-product, by bringing methanol or dimethyl ether into contact with a zirconium phosphate crystalline compound.
CONSTITUTION: Methanol or dimethyl ether is brought into contact with a compound of the formual (R is alkyl, alkoxyl, aryl or aryloxy) in the vapor phase to give a hydrocarbon consisting of a lower olefin essentially. The compound of the formula is a laminar structure having various interlaminar distances depending upon the kind of the substituent group (R), and molded directly into pellets or spheres or supported on a carrier, e.g. alumina, and used. The reaction is carried out at 1W50atm and 350W450°C while keeping the LHSV of the methanol or dimethyl ether at 0.1W10hr-1.
