Abstract

PURPOSE:A cholesterol reducing agent, containing an anion exchange resin having a specific imidazole salt as functional groups essentially, having a high selective adsorbability for bile acids and no bad smell without adsorbing useful substances, e.g. vitamins. CONSTITUTION:A cholesterol reducing agent containing an anion exchange resin which is a copolymer of a reaction product between a halomethyloxirane compound of formula I (R is H or CH3; X is halogen) with an imidazole of formula II (R1 is H; R2 is H, 1-11C alkyl, etc.; R3 and R4 are H or 1-3C alkyl) and a polyfunctional epoxy resin having two or more oxirane rings and an epoxy equivalent of 100-600 as an active constituent. The resin is a water-insoluble resin having an imidazole salt in which the counter ion is one selected from X<->, OH<-> and 1/2 (SO4)<2-> as functional groups, a moisture content of 30-90% and a particle diameter <=50 mesh. The oral administration of the agent in a dose of 1-30g per adult a day permits the reduction of the cholesterol.
