Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain a remarkable synergistic effect in the control of slime in water, and to control the slime to which the separate use of hydrazine is hardly effective, by using hydrazine in combination with a 3-isothiazolone compound.
CONSTITUTION: Slime in water is controlled by the combined use of hydrazine and the 3-isothiazolone compound of formula (R1 is H or halogen; R2 is H or 1W 18C alkyl) or its complex compound with a metal salt. Although both hydrazine and the compound of formula are effective as slime controlling agents, the separate use of each compound has only limited effect. The combined use of both compounds is not only effective to attain an extremely remarkable synergistic effect, but also more effective for the control of slime resistant to hydrazine than the slime which is virgin to hydrazine. The concentrations of hydrazine and the compound of formula in the water to be treated are adjusted to 1W30ppm and 0.05W5ppm, respectively.
