PURPOSE:To precisely detect the torque of an induction motor in a stationary power converter for driving the motor by performing a torque calculation with sinusoidal and cosine values corresponding to the voltage phase angle of the motor, thereby carrying out a slip compensation. CONSTITUTION:A torque detecting circuit 7 has a memory 7e, a microcomputer 7f, latch circuits 7g-7h, D/A converters 7a-7d, addition subtractors 7i-7j and a multiplier 7k. The effective and reactive components of a current detecting circuit 5 of an induction motor 3 are applied to the input of the circuit 7, signal data 700 such as a torque command 401, an inverter frequency command 451 is applied to the computer 7f, which thus outputs a torque detection signal 701. A comparator 41 receives the command 401 and the signal 701 and produces an effective current command 421, a comparator 43 receives a signal 501 and produces a slip command signal 441, and an adder receives a rotating speed signal 801 and produces a command 451. In this manner, effective feedback value can be obtained, thereby regulating the motor 3 and precisely driving the motor.
