PURPOSE:To prevent an erasing head from deteriorating in erasure rate, by making a side core for a tape-separation-side of a magnetic material which has higher maximum magnetic flux density than a side core for a tape-entry- side. CONSTITUTION:An erasing head consists of a center core 3 of ferrite wound with a winding 5 for erasing magnetic field production, and a side core 2 for a tape-separation-side made of a lamination of magnetic materials which have higher maximum magnetic flux density than the magnetic material of said side core 1, e.g. ''Sendust '', amorphous materials, etc. Consequently, the magnetic saturation of the side core 2 is delayed behind the saturation of the tape-entry- side ferrite core, and the intensity of a magnetic field applied to a magnetic tape T near the side core 2 for the tape-separation-side has gentle attenuation curve characteristics, and as an erasing current increases, an erasure rate increases, thus preventing deterioration in erasure rate.
