Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration in S/N due to an off-track state by providing a conductor layer on the flank of a magnetic head core and by demagnetizing the flank by feeding a current to the layer. CONSTITUTION:As for a magnetic head formed by winding coil 9 around core 8 with gap 11, conductor layers 10 and 10' connected by conductor 13 are arranged on its core flank with insulating layers 12 interposed. Flowing a current through above conductor layer 10, conductor 13 and conductor layer 10' provides magnetic field 14 around conductor layers 10 and 10' and record on magnetic disk 2 is erased by this magnetic field 14 to width W. For the purpose, setting this width W more than an off-track value eliminates the pickup of an unerased signal of an off-track, and consequently deterioration in S/N can be avoided.
