PURPOSE:To avoid a contact between a pinch roller and a tape, by supporting rotatably a pressure lever having a slit at a head base and limiting the shift of the pinch roller in the cue and review modes. CONSTITUTION:A head base 18 advances by a certain distance in the fast reproduction (cue) and rewinding reproduction (review) modes and then advances further in the reproduction and recording modes. In the cue and review modes, a pressure lever 24 also advances along with the base 18. The lever 24 touches a sliding plate 30 while advancing and turns, and the rest strokes of the base 18 produce the deflection of a pinch roller spring 26 that energizes the lever 24. As a result, a pinch roller 331 having its shaft in the slit of the lever 24 is incapable of shifting toward a capstan shaft 33. This prevents a contact between the roller 331 and a tape.
