Abstract

PURPOSE:To shift rolls with extremely small shift driving forces by inclining the rolls on the plane parallel with the rolling surfaces of a rolled plate to impart thrust forces to rolls and making use of the thrust forces thereof. CONSTITUTION:Cylinders 35, 36 are retracted to draw wedge liners 31, 32 from wedge-like spaces, and to form clearances X between an inside journal box 4, an outside journal box 9 and housing 8. Cylinders 50, 51 are operated to move inclination blocks 45, 46 to arrow directions, thereby inclining a work roll 1 with extension beams 19. Immediately, handles are rotated to pull extension beams 20, 21 by engaging collars 23, thereby shifting the rolls 1, 2 in prescribed directions. At this time, the thrust forces moving the rolls 1, 2 in the prescribed directions are generated in these rolls per se and therefore it is possible to shift the rolls 1, 2 easily with the small forces.
