Abstract

PURPOSE: A colorant-sulfonic acid is made to react with an amide and acid chloride in the presence of sulforane to synthesize a sulfonyl chloride bearing selected functional groups under mild conditions through simple operations.
CONSTITUTION: A sulfonic acid having a dye group of formulaI(Dye is a color- developing group such as azo) (1mol) is made to react with a reagent of formula II (R1 is 1W23C alkyl; R2, R3 are 1W24C alkyl; Y is anion of an acid containing phosphorus or sulfur), which is prepared from an amide and an acid chloride (about 0.1W5mol and 1W5mol respectively) in sulforane (50mlW5l) at about 30W 60°C or at room temperature. Then, the reaction mixture is cooled and poured into ice water and the crystal precipitate is filtered off. When necessary, the crystals are recrystallized from a solvent such as benzene to give the objective sulfonyl chloride.
