Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a stable semiconductor laser output by shifting the polarization direction of a beam of light from a light source from a polarization direction determined by a polarizing beam splitter, and then using light split by the beam splitter for feedback. CONSTITUTION:The polarization direction of a beam of light from a laser diode 11 is shifted slightly from a polarization direction determined by a polarizing beam splitter 12, and consequently the beam from the light source is split into a beam from a record carrier to a signal photodetector 15 and a beam to a feedback photodetector 13. The feedback photodetector 13 transduces the beam into an electric signal, which is amplified by an amplifier 17 and then compared with a reference signal 14; and an amplifier 18 amplifies the difference signal, thus forming a loop for making the quantity of output light of the laser diode 11 constant. Therefore, the beam emitted from the light source 11 is split into the beam to the feedback photodetector 13 and a beam to the signal photodetector 15 by only one polarizing beam splitter 12.
